o GPA(非常重要)
D was freshmen at University of Pittsburg who wanted to transfer into sophomore.
Boston College

1. Human beings have a creative side that tends to shine most when we are truly invested in the world around us. Describe a situation when you responded effectively to a particular need and found yourself at your creative best.
Music has always been a big part of my life. I start playing in orchestra at my junior high school as a first trumpet and enjoyed making music with my bandmates so much. When I learned that there was no band to join in my high school I decided to make an orchestra.
Starting an orchestra was not as difficult as I thought at first. There were many other music lovers hiding among us and I was able to gather 30 or so, including wind, string and percussion players. We asked our music teacher to become our conductor and we had a brand new orchestra. However making harmonies was not as easy as putting together a band. We were all so eager and had different ideas about what would be a cool thing to play. Chinese music? Movie theme songs rearranged? Pop songs? Favorite classical music? In the end we played little bit of everything.
When we first decided to play the classical jazz music called the ‘ Take five’ after rounds of practice we realized that this might be a bit boring to your audience. It is a well known music often times played as a background music so we started brainstorming for ideas to make this interesting. Should we stand up and perform in the middle? Should me make rearrangements to the original score? Nothing came out naturally until we just started playing freestyles. One of us ended up playing a completely different song at the end that had a transition similar to our original song. That sparked so many ideas and we ended up inserting the jazz version of the ‘Mission Impossible’ and the ‘Pink panther’ theme song in the middle to surprise people.
We worked hard on unexpected but smooth transition to our surprise section starting from the change of beat to the signature melody. The result was great. People loved it and it became our thing. We made slight twist to the popular classics.
Playing music is not always about perfect technique or playing very serious and complicated piece. It could be about enjoying what I love with others. Making my own interpretation. I learned how to exchange ideas with my bandmates, to build something very different using each others idea.

USC: Please respond to one of the prompts below. (250 word limit) USC believes that one learns best when interacting with people of different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Tell us about a time you were exposed to a new idea or when your beliefs were challenged by another point of view.
Just like any of my friends I connect with most of the people I know online. I expertly have discussions over texts and voicemails, keep in touch with friends through social network updates and make new friends online.
It is very convenient to stay on my device all day. I can talk to my friends while catching up on the latest television shows or I can find any information I need for my studies right away. When I get hungry I can order takeout. Everything is fast, always available and I am used to the instant gratification.
During my high school years I had a chance to participate in educational farming on campus. We grew organic strawberries from our rooftop. Growing a plant was something I had never done by my own hand. It took more work and care than I thought initially. After seeding, we had to water it just the right amount. Then when the vine grew we plucked the weeds out regularly, making sure the vines didn’t compete with each other, and let bees and butterflies pollinate the flowers.
It took over a month of hard work and constant checking to finally see red berries peeking through the leaves. During that time I grew to like the gardening. There was something very calming about touching the soil and leaves with my bare hand. The plant was like my baby. I saw it growing under my care, and the fruit it bore was a gift to me. This experience taught me what it is to earn something through effort over time. The strawberries were the best tasting ones I ever had!
